MACS Consortium is a group of eye care professionals dedicated to providing patients with impartial information about the latest, Most Accurate Cataract Surgery (MACS) technologies available. While we may mention specific manufacturers that offer the latest technologies, we do not endorse any manufacturers. We do, however, provide you with a list of U.S. specialists. These include both ophthalmologists who perform MACS eye measurements, offer MACS lenses, and perform the more precise MACS surgery, as well as doctors of optometry who conduct MACS eye measurements and work with a MACS surgeon.

Doctor Beran practices in Columbus, Ohio and has a combined cataract and refractive practice in ophthalmology. He was one of the first surgeons throughout the country to be trained in LASIK procedure and was one of the first in the state of Ohio to perform this corneal refractive procedure.
His background in cataract surgery combined with his long experience with corneal refractive PRK and LASIK procedures have provided him a unique understanding of the BOOMER cataract age patient. His skills in both areas of surgery combine to provide a unique approach to MACS cataract surgery and his patients options for vision rehabilitation.
Dr. Fazio specializes in pre-operative and post-operative cataract and LASIK care, contact lenses and primary eye care needs. He is Board Certified in the United States and Canada to treat and manage ocular diseases, dry eye and glaucoma. To date, Dr. Fazio has co-managed more than ten thousand surgical cases.
Dr. Fazio is married to his lovely wife Tina, and together they have four children. He enjoys outdoor activities, sports, travel, playing the piano and painting. Dr. Fazio also speaks Italian, French and Spanish.
Dr. Harvey is currently Board Certified in Ophthalmology and is licensed in Wisconsin. He has served as a member of a missionary surgical team in Honduras and Vietnam. In addition to seeing patients, Dr. Harvey has various research interests, including lamellar corneal transplantation.
Dr. Harvey is currently a member of several organizations, including: the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Medical Association, the State Medical Society of Wisconsin, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the Wisconsin Alumni Association.
Dr. John Lahr received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Indiana University School of Optometry and was the founder of The Eye Clinics, a five-office primary eye care group practice in East Central Minnesota. In 1984, Dr. Lahr integrated his practices with ophthalmology, began providing his patients with co-managed care and developed care models with several ophthalmologists. He was an original member of the Clinical Practice Guidelines Committee of AOA to develop practice standards and protocols for the profession and served as Coding Chair for the Eye Care Benefit Center. Dr. Lahr served as AOA’s first representative to the American Medical Association’s CPT coding committee. He is a Past President of the Minnesota Optometric Association and was the MOA Optometrist of the Year in 1989.
Over the past 13 years, Dr. Lahr has served the optical and ophthalmic surgical product industry as a consultant in the areas of product development, surgeon training and providing clinical education to ophthalmologists and optometrists. He is a frequent lecturer nationally and internationally on the topics of coding and billing, ocular surface disease, advanced microsurgical techniques, nutritional treatment and practice/operations management. Dr. Lahr currently has appointments to the medical advisory boards of Advanced Medical Optics, Allergan, Oasis Medical, PRN, MACS cataract surgery group and Medical Advisory Board and Biosyntrx and serves as the Divisional Vice-President of Provider Relations/Medical Director for EyeMed Vision Care.
A graduate of the Hershey Medical Center of Penn State University, Dr. Matossian completed her Residency in Ophthalmology at George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, DC. Founder of Matossian Eye Associates in 1987, Dr. Matossian is board certified, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Board of Eye Surgery, a board member for several health facilities, a clinical instructor / adjunct faculty member and is recognized as one of America's top Ophthalmologists by the Consumer Research Bureau.
Dr. Newsom is the founder and leader of our ophthalmology practice. He specializes in Cataract, Glaucoma and LASIK surgery. Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Newsom brings a wealth of experience, awards, and research to the practice.
Born in Gainesville, Florida, Dr. Newsom’s non-medical interests include water & snow skiing, tennis, remote control airplanes and helicopters, and traveling. He is married to Stacy, and they have a daughter Madison and twins Brooke and Chase.
Dr. Michael G. Richie is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist, and founder of the Richie Eye Clinic. He has been practicing in Faribault since 1991.
Concentrating on Cataract Surgery with a special interest in high technology lens implants, Dr. Richie has earned a reputation as a cutting-edge surgeon. Through his affiliation with LASIKPlus, he is one of the leading LASIK and Laser Vision Correction surgeons in the Midwest and has been able to transfer these skills to his cataract practice, making him one of the most experienced refractive cataract surgeons in Southern Minnesota.
Mortan Taylor is the administrator for Florida Eye Institute. He is an active member of the ASOA and past president of that society.
Dr. Wiley had pioneered many eye procedures in the Northwest Ohio area. To date, Dr. Wiley has performed over 10,000 cataract and refractive surgical procedures. He is a true Doctor’s doctor in that over the past 4 years he has performed over 100 surgeries on physicians and their family members. Dr. Wiley is a cataract surgery and also a premium LASIK surgeon, combining these skills and technologies have brought a unique blend of technology for his MACS cataract patients.
In addition, he is the Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology, University Hospitals/Case Western University. Dr. Wiley currently resides with his wife and family in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio
Dr. Zudans is the President of Florida Eye Institute Surgicenter, LLC and Treasurer of Florida Eye Institute, PA. He joined the staff in July 2002, after completion of his ophthalmology residency at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami. He is a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology.
He performs the most advanced no-needle, no-stitch sedation, outpatient cataract surgery. For those who want to reduce or eliminate the need for their glasses he provides MACS cataract procedures and combines his experience and technology for corneal refractive procedures. He also cares for patients with glaucoma and other general ophthalmologic conditions.
Dr. Zudans is actively involved in ophthalmology research and is a principle investigator in two ongoing clinical trials for cataract lens implants.
